You guys all rock. End of story. If you haven't already, give your fellow bloggers' comments on my previous post a skim because they are all so funny and creative. Every single one left me smiling and giggling to myself. Seems like we were all pretty cool cats as youngins, even if we were rebels and terrors! Wouldn't it be awesome if all our child selves could have a massive playdate, complete with unlimited coloring books and Disney movies? Lordy that would be so fun. And no Ed party crashing allowed! I'm definitely getting on inventing a time machine, so we can make this happen.
Back in the day... When I say I had crazy curly hair as a child, I'm not kidding!
I just got back from taking Rosie on a walk, and all I can say is wow. Definitely the most bizarre hour I've experienced in a long time. Halfway through I seriously texted my sister asking if it was Friday the thirteenth, that's how weird it was. I'm walking down the sidewalk, Rosie trotting along, when all of a sudden a bug flies up my nose. Yes folks, I officially inhaled an insect and it was not pleasant. Once I managed to semi regain my composure we continued on our merry way. Half a block further I saw a guy standing outside his house wearing a hideous neon turquoise tracksuit. I'm glad he was wearing sunglasses, otherwise the color probably would have blinded him. Or at least caused retinal scarring. That was a bit out of the ordinary but what was even weirder was that he saw me and blew a kiss at me. So odd, especially considering I was not looking kissworthy in the slightest. Like I was still hacking and wheezing from the bug in the nose incident, was being dragged down the street by a slobbery dog and had my parka hood up.
Meanwhile as we're walking there are crows everywhere. Seriously they were filling the trees and waddling all over the streets. I'm not a fan of crows, and I was definitely more afraid of them than they were of me. Like as we approached they didn't move and just sort of looked at me like, "Come closer. I dare you." I felt as though I was playing a game of chicken... but with crows. As a side, is there a difference between ravens and crows? I would look it up on wikipedia but to be honest I'm scared that there'd be a picture accompanying the description. So what have we encountered over the course of ten minutes? Fly in my nose, kiss blown by Borat-resembling tracksuit man and somehow stumbling upon a crow convention. But don't worry, there's more fun to be had.

Walking by a bus stop we passed this woman who spotted Rosie and spontaneously began serenading her. Loudly. It was definitely awkward. I mean, what could I do? I still don't know what the appropriate response was, but I just sort of stood there smiling awkwardly and feeling like a third wheel while Rosie quivered behind my legs in fear. It's rough having an adorable dog because people constantly want to pet her. And even though Rosie is clearly trembling in fear and I tell them she's super shy they insist on trying anyways. I want to say that just because you have/had/once touched a dog doesn't change the fact that Rosie is terrified of anything that breathes and many things which don't. End rant. Considering all the craziness went down just during the walk this morning, who knows what the rest of the day will bring?

Cuteness personified. Except when she needs to pee at three in the morning.
Sorry that this post is so ridiculously all over the place. I hope my description of the walk wasn't mind numblingly boring! It probably is one of those had to be there things, but I was tripping out the whole time. As a side, I just read something about yawning and then couldn't help but yawn. I'm such a cliche. As long as I'm being random already, might as well continue with a funny thing I read on MLIA this morning.
"Today I was eating the most delicious brownie and then suddenly realized that I was saying 'Nom nom nom' unconsciously under my breath."
Tee hee. I actually knew a girl who whenever she ate something yummy would do a little happy dance in her chair and sing to herself. It was funny. Anyways. Now it's your turn! Did anything random or interesting happen to you today? When you read about my yawning incident did you yawn yourself? Oh goodness, just writing about it made me yawn again! Power of suggestion, I guess.

LOL what on earth?? such a weird experience oyu had on that walk, twilight zone much? the only weird thing that's happened so far today was when a guy held the door at a lecture hall open for me and said, "after you, mademoiselle!"
ReplyDeleteHehehe what a funny day for you my dear! You're dog is adorable (and little girl you :)) Whenever I go out with my dog I get so many "aaw can i stroke him", "he looks like a teddy bear" type comments, it takes forever to get anywhere!
ReplyDeleteSadly my day has been of the dull sort- maybe tomorrow something exciting will happen...
Love xxxxxxx
I want your day! Sounds fun! I'm going to just go ahead and say that I like crows and to make myself sound even crazier, whenever I see them I like to think they're watching over me. By turning them into guardians, they're less terrifying. Oh, and crows are smaller than ravens. Ravens can get pretty big. I think that's the only difference..
ReplyDeleteROSIE IS ADORABLE! No wonder that crazy lady was serenading her. Nothing random OR interesting has happened to me today and I have a feeling that nothing will. Ugh. Boring, boring, boring. Why can't a man in a turquoise tracksuit blow a kiss to me? Why?! Come one, can't someone take pity on me and liven up my day/life/existance?
Aha.. I hate when bugs fly up your noise. I remember that one time when I was walking home from school I had a fly commit suicide by going up my nose. My first thought? Man, I'm the worst vegan ever. Actually, I'm finding that I get that thought a lot. Such as, whenever I kill a spider without a single ounce of remorse.
PS. This was way too long of a comment.
PPS. Ever since you mentioned how some of the words that blogspot makes you type in resemble other words, I've been saying them out loud and getting frustrated whenever I can't relate them to a word that I know.
Haha, sounds like an interesting walk! Stuff like that happening all at once creeps me out, too. Rosie is adorable though!
ReplyDeleteBahaha your walk sounded hilarious! Hilarious in a slightly scary way, but still ;) I would serenade your Rosie any day, she's adorable.
ReplyDeleteI think I do a happy dance when I eat something particularly nice as well. Good job I usually eat alone :P
Your day sounds very interesting! I've definitely had the fly-in-nose experience before - not pleasant! Rosie is so adorable! I love your curly hair! When I was younger I always wished I had curly hair, mine is pin straight. In the fourth grade I had the brilliant idea to get a perm - bad move!
ReplyDeleteProbably the most interesting thing was an old man at the grocery store. We were both looking at the yogurt selection and he ranted to me for at least five minutes about how they didn't have a custard-flavored yogurt but he just knew he had bought it there before. It was funny. I helped him look for a custard-flavored one, but there weren't any so I recommended my personal fav brand. Old people are so funny sometimes (:
Also this old man I work with got on the intercom today and said "twenty five dollars" I still have no idea wtf he was talking about!
Not gonna lie, I totally yawned :p

PS- my word verification thing was "flies"
ReplyDeleteI was amused by the irony. MLIA.
omg cuteness personified times one million! and that picture of you as well!! not gonna lie, totally stalked you on facebook the other day and these pics were my favorites ;] hehe
ReplyDeletedon't think i'm a creeper! i wanted to see your locks in real life--mine are just as crazy curly girl :]
love you <3
oooh mygosh. you are cute overload. love that curly hair! <3 precious!!!
ReplyDeleteand that puppy... gahh <3
Rosie is so cute and so are you with that curly hair! ;)
ReplyDeleteBAHAHA ive soo said nom nom outloud before! whooops! u were an adorable kid!
ReplyDeleteWho needs a time machine for us to have a Disney playdate with Crayons and butcher's paper and coloring-in book and a costume box when we could have an epic child-hood playdate now!? I'd happily release my inner child and go crazy with the Crayolas, if you gave me the chance. ;)
ReplyDeleteI giggled, I "awwed", my eyeballs popped outta my head and I sympathised at different points throughout the recount of your crazy day. That sounds more like a dream than an actual, lived day! Woah. That one has to be written in the memory book!
I love your words, Rachael. No matter what you say, you always have a way of moving me.
Love,
Eleanor. xo
Never apologise for your posts...they're always brilliant, witty and well-observed. All over the place is good and I like that kind of writing :P
ReplyDeleteYour crazy hair is cool and I want to come to this mass playdate - where and when is it to be held?!
Random stuff? I had a dream about being onboard the Titanic last night, then hiding under a huge bed..hehe!

When I see a lot of crows, it always reminds me of the Hitchcock-film "The Birds". Every time. It's creepy, especially when they're staring at me.
ReplyDeleteThat insect-in-nose-thing happened to me too. Yuk.
Once, I was in a museum and I made a sketch of one of the paintings there. An old man started talking to me and then he said something like "Never stop drawing. Always go on. It's like throwing snow balls: You throw one after the other and eventually, one will come flying back to you." It was kind of weird, but I loved it. (Does that even fit here? I know, you asked for something that happened today, but actually, I've not been out of the house today and this was the first thing that came to my mind.)
I'm with Eleanor on this one... no time machine is necessary ;)
ReplyDeleteUhm.. could you have a cuter dog? I know exactly what you mean about strangers on the street.. I have two wiener dogs who are overly-protective and will bark and growl at strangers while we are walking... they are so cute though that people almost always continue to try petting them.

Ps.... it just so happens that I didn't yawn, but that might have something to do with all the caffeine I just consumed. There is a VERY large empty mug beside me that smells of strong coffee :)
I'm going to ninja Rosie from you. So.Cute.
ReplyDeleteYour day sounds really Twilight Zonish... maybe there was something in the big that flew up your nose. I've managed to inhale insects before and get little bugs in my eyes while I'm biking or running, but never up the nose. Poor you.
I love random days like that though, they keep life interesting. The worst thing is getting stuck in the same old grind. And don't apologize for the randomness of a post, its always fun to read yours <3
Now I'm yawning all kinds! I love your Rosie--she's so adorable. And I love that picture of you as a kid! You are so cute.
ReplyDeleteI loved this post. And I almost died when I read about the woman at the bus stop. That's the weirdest thing ever. I hate when those kind of things happen (even though they're so funny afterward) because what are you supposed to do? Majorly awkward.
Take care and I will be looking forward to that playdate ;)
lol your so funny :-), no matter how hard I tried to resist I yawned! Ive always wondered why yawning is so contagious?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely sounds like you had a freaky day but beats a boring old day like mine!

Rosie is honestly a sweet looking dog! Your walk may have been a little different from usual but hey! Think of it as an adventure! Lol. Days like these don't happen very often. x) And nope, I didn't yawn! Your posts are too interesting and full of energy to be 'yawnable'.
