We Kick Em to the Curb Unless They Look Like Mick Jagger.

I have had "Tik Tok" by Ke$ha stuck in my head for days. I'm all for catchy tunes but after a solid week my tolerance is wearing thin. Not a second goes by when lyrics such as "Before I leave brush my teef (Teef, not teeth. This is very important.) with a bottle of Jack/ cause when I leave for the night I ain't coming back," are not running through my head. In a desperate final attempt I wikipediad Ke$ha, hoping that learning she was born in London under the name Katherine Angelina or something would relieve me of this affliction. But alas!

"Kesha was born in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles to a single parent. Her mother, Pebe Sebert, a singer and songwriter, was struggling financially while supporting Kesha and her older brother, Lagan,[3] at the time. They had to rely on welfare payments and food stamps to get by." - wikipedia.org

Damn you Ke$ha and your street cred!

Alright, enough of my music woes. I have bigger fish to fry. But not in the literal sense because yours truly is a vegetarian ;) This post is about experimentation. Not that kind.. Jeez, get your mind out of the gutter! In her youth my younger sister would "play scientist" whenever we ate at a restaurant. This entailed her mixing the leftovers of everyone's food, condiments, salt, pepper, etc in a bowl or glass. Basically anything the wasn't nailed to the floor went into her concoction. I always felt badly for the waiter who had to clean up after our family. Codependent from day one, yo. Apparently 7 year old Rachael should have been going to CODA meetings on the daily.

But I digress. I decided to perform a little chemistry experiment of my own. The chemicals were highly reactive and a single miscalculation had the potential to blow the world into smithereens.. But when it comes to lunch related matters that's a risk I'm willing to take. I let frozen bloobs (Pause for inner giggle... I'm mature, I swear) and yogurt mingle for a while while hoping for the best.
Getting jiggy wit' it.

I'm quite behind on my grown up picture book reading.

It was a smashing success! As the berries thawed they made the yogurt really thick and cold. I know my "experiment" really isn't revolutionary at all, but the mixture was still a challenge. It reminded me of frozen yogurt. This was really scary for me, as frozen yogurt is a big fear food of mine. Weird, I know. Growing up with an eating disordered mom, sugar free low carb frozen yogurt was our family's equivalent of ice cream. So for today my little mixture was a big deal. Maybe someday I'll be trying the real thing.

Fun Fact: Even though I worked at Pinkberry for six months, I have never actually tried their yogurt. This made for some really awkward conversations when customers asked me what my favorite flavor was! Do NOT work at Pinkberry if you get cold easily. Silly me didn't consider when applying that a.) they keep the store freezing and b.) the warmest part of your uniform is an apron. I seriously would go outside and wash the windows just to stand in the sunlight and thaw out. So the next time you go into a frozen yogurt store give the servers a big smile... and possibly a snuggie.

  1. I hate having songs stuck in my head.... And it happens to me quite often. Lately it's been one sort of Christmas Carol or another. Deck the Halls. Silver Bells. Winter Wonderland... Maybe I'm getting into the spirit. Who knows.

I've never tried letting blueberries thaw in yogurt... Sounds intriguing. I think I will most definitely have to try it.

  2. ARGH I have the same song stuck in my head too, even though I've refused to ever listen to the song in its entirety! I have to try the frozen blooby yogurt. Give yourself a lot of credit, even though it may seem like a small challenge it's a huge step towards a healthy relationship with food! Whoa you worked at Pinkberry? And you NEVER tried their yogurt?! How tragic! But I definitely understand you association with froyo, given your family background. Haha i love your snuggie idea though. I assume the never tasting Pinkberry was ED based, and I can relate. At the worst of my anorexia I felt compelled to get a job at Panera (i think i was obsessed with food, just wouldn't allow myself to eat) I never ate a single thing off of their menu...too bad, I think it would have been free! And at the end of the day they would give ALL of the breads and baked goods away to employees...I'd lug a garbage bag sized container of cookies, brownies, etc bag to the dorms and let all my suitemates go wild. THat's probably the only reason they were friends with me ;)

  3. Totally relate- I worked at a cafe for 3 months and didn't once try anything from their menu. We could choose anything for lunch free but I still opted to bring my own :( Sad times. Blueberry frozen yoghurt idea looks great. I want to start a campaign to get froyo stores over here! xxxxx

  6. LOL I love your anecdote at the end about working in the fro yo place. That sounds like my worst ever job as I am freezing all the damn time.

I'm so proud of you for experimenting with your eats today and branching out from your comfort zone. ED hates change or anything new/scary... but he better get used to it, because looks like you're in charge now ;)

Oh and my sister and I used to play the mixing game in restaurants too... no wander our parents didnt like taking us out much! haha

    Loads of love <3

  7. I was just thinking about how fun it would be to work at Ben & Jerry's but thanks for the reminder that it would mean working in the cold. Brrr.

I've been having the chipmunks' Christmas song go over and over in my head the past like.. half hour now! =S And it's not like they have voices to die for either. Lol.

    Have a lovely day sweetie!!
